Track Attack #4: Porcupine Tree – I Drive the Hearse

In Track Attack on August 23, 2013 at 2:10 pm

Porcupine Tree, one of the many projects figure-headed by the shoe-hating super talent Steve Wilson, is an english progressive rock band, and has remained one of my personal favourites for many years.

I Drive the Hearse starts simply, with only three elements, which is almost unthinkable for a prog-rock band! Its a beautiful intro, Wilsons soft yet haunting voice walks us in accompanied by acoustic guitar and bass.

This soft introduction soon evolves into classic porcupine tree stuff, an almost gravelly static-esque tone on the electric guitar aligns itself with the acoustic guitar to give the sound some meat.
The incomprehensibly awesome Gavin Harrison keeps the beat flowing with tight crisp percussion, and if im not mistaken even manages to fit the cowbell into this melancholic number.

This is some classically airy stuff, and any prog-rock fan will enjoy this number.

Check out their official website for more insight into the band!
